Sac Muyal

Once, Sac Muyal robbed a young girl and disappeared with her. To rescue her, her lover ran day and night, between mountains and roads. Suddenly a snake came out, and the serpent said:
 - I know what you are looking and I want to help you. Remove from my body, a little blood, drink it and then I'll be your guide. He did so, and walked behind the snake, but as she was lazy after a while she fell asleep.

Then the man struck her with a reed and Only then she resumed her way. Soon reached to a mountain so thick that it was impossible to go further.

He already became heartbroken when an old woman approached him and said:

-Take this strand of my hair, throw it and you can follow your route. As he pulls the thread, a path was opened, and easily walked to reach the shore of a lake. So there a deer said:

- Take this stone, throw it into the water and you will cross the lake

The man threw the stone, as in a dream was born to the other shore of the lake. Here, an eagle appeared and said:

- Here, this is one of my claws, will be useful. Now go your way.

He advanced, and passing under a custard, a drop of sap, came into his eyes and became blind. Then a beetle said:

- Take this ball of soil through your eyes and you will see again

It's passed twice and he regained his sight. Went ahead and stopped at a cave where they were the old woman, the deer, the eagle and the beetle. The old woman thus said

- Now is the end of your trip. Enter the cave and there you will find the girl you are looking for.

The deer said:

- Touch it with the stone.

The eagle said:

-Touch it with my fingernail.

     The beetle said:

-Pass the ball through her eyes.

     The serpent said:

-Drizzle with the water of your gourd.

The man did everything they said,  but at that moment,  he felt dizzy,   and lost consciousness completely.   When he woke up in his arms was the girl who stole Sac Muyal.

- What are you doing Juan Tul?

- Supporting the roof of this cave.

- Are you tired?

- A lot.

- If you want I will help.

- you make me a favor, because I tell you, I can not anymore.

The squirrel took the place Juan Tul and was there for hours until she realized that it was a joke. Lowered his hands and left thecave.

A few days found Juan Tul and said:

- You fooled me, about the cave.

Juan Tul, pretending to be surprised, he answered:

-I have never been in the cave you say. For months I have in this pastureBy the way, I am very tired. Why not give me a hand?

- With pleasure - said the squirrel

Juan Tul threw up large herds of grass and escaped. The squirrel gave up under the weight and slipped as she could and then she thought: "Again Juan Tul fooled me."

In road he again met Juan Tul and said:

- You no longer deceive me again, Juan Tul. With this vine I'll give you a beating.

- What are you sayingSince childhood I live next to this tree. I have never been far from the tree. I do not know what you mean.

- AnywayI would have to punish you.

- Why you will have to punished meyou will despise the pinecones that are there?

- Where?

- Do not you see them, silly? There on the edge of the road!

And while the squirrel was looking for the pinecones, John Tul disappeared.

One afternoon, the squirrel ran into Juan Tul and said:

-Hey, Juan Tul ...

- I am not Juan Tul. I just got out of the forest on the other side of the road.

- Then you give me some water?I come thirsty from running!

- Of course! Here's my gourd full of water. Drink to the last drop, if you want.

Thirsty as she was, the squirrel gulped the whole content of gourd and took a deep breath when she fell forward. What had taken was brandy. Then Juan Tul, laughing, said:

Old-drunken woman, now Catch me if you can. And ran.

The Dwarf of Uxmal

The Story of a Dwarf, a King and a Prophecy

In the village of Kaban, lived an old, reputed witch. Once, she found a tiny egg and joyfully put it in a warm dark place. Every day, take it out to contemplate and pet himIt happened after several weeks, the egg swung open and a child was born. The witch cooed, but she couldn´t feed him, looked for a woman who had just given birth. The woman came and nursed the child as her own son. Seeing so much tenderness the witch said:

-From now on you will be the mother and I will be the grandmother.

The boy grew up a little but no more and in a short time, he changed his appearance, he grew a beard and he got a big nose. It was thus a dwarf.

When the witch saw this, loved her more.

Like most of the time the witch stayed by the stove, the dwarf suspected some mystery kept that site and so he purposed to find out. In a careless of the witch, he rummaged through the ashes and ran into a tunkul [percussion instrument made from a hollow log]. As soon as he had in his hands, hit it and the sound was heard far away. Upon hearing such a noise, the witch came, came to his grandson and said:

-What you have done can not be helpedBut I tell you it will not be long before things happen that will fill people with terror and you will be involved in its consequences.

The dwarf replied:

- I am not old and I will see it

The witch said:

- I'm old and I will see it too.

The king of Uxmal and his advisers knew that the sound of that tunkul announced the end of the kingdom; but the advises, not to worry the king they said:

- Fight against your destiny

- How? Asked the king.

- Search for, who played the tunkul listen anything from his lips, the truth you need.

The king ordered his guards to go out to find the person who played the tunkul,  and after many days, they found the person and took him to the palace. Upon seeing the dwarf, the King said:

-What announces the sound of the tunkul?

-You know better than me - said the dwarf.

can I get rid of the prophecy? - Asked the king.

- Make a road that goes from Uxmal to Kaban and when it finished, then I will return and give you my answer - said the dwarf.

The road was made and it came the dwarf and the witch. Then the king asked the dwarf:

- What is your answer?

-  first I will put you a test, if you resist You will know it,

- What is it?

-That in your head and mine, breaks a fruit called cocoyol [hard stone fruit].

-Okay, but you will suffer the first test, said King

-I agree, if you wish.

Approached the executioner, and placed on the head of the dwarf, a cocoyol, and landed a solid blow.  The dwarf shook his long hair and stood up smiling. Then the king, in silence, took off his robe and went to the scaffold and the executioner placed a cocoyol in the head. At the first blow the king was dead.

At the same event the dwarf was proclaimed king of Uxmal and later that day the witch called him and said:

- You are a kingOnly this, I was expecting before I die.  Do not cry to me, because my death is not painful.

Rules with the justice you learned from me. Listen to all advice and follow the best advice. Do not be afraid of the truth, even if it is unpleasant. Be yourself, benign, rather than reasonable. Banish from your heart revenge.

Obeys the voice of the gods but do not be deaf to the voice of men. Do not disdain the humble and not rely on the powerful people.

For a while the dwarf followed the advice of the witch and happiness spread through the kingdom. But over the years changed hisspirit committed injustice, became tyrant and his pride grew so much that one day he told his advisers:

-I will make a god more powerful than all the gods that govern us.

And then he ordered a statue of clay and put it on a fire and fire hardened and vibrated like bell. And the people believed that the statue spoke and worshiped. For this heresy, the gods destroyed Uxmal.
